"The requests came by themselves. We'd barely processed the huge domestic demand – we underestimated how many new copies we'd need for both reprints – when we started getting emails and phone calls. the international press covered the scandal surrounding the book and the subsequent strong homophobic and transphobic government campaign, so many foreign publishers were curious to know what the book was like and whether it was worth publishing in other countries. Labrisz Lesbian Association hired a specialist in the international marketing of copyright, who is still handling enquiries, looking for partners who are interested in the publication. So a tiny Swedish publisher, a tiny French publisher and an even smaller Dutch publisher were chosen. The German, Finnish and English publishers are giants, but they are also very nice and enthusiastic. [...]

The translators are not chosen by us, but by the foreign publishers, although the Finnish translator Saarni Laitinen herself contacted Labrisz to see if the rights were still free. She has already translated Tibor Noé Kiss' book into Finnish. Our Swedish translator, Eva-Tea Lundberg, is the translator of Magda Szabó's books, and the English translator Anna Bentley, who last year won the PEN Award (also known as the Oscar for translators) for her translation of A Fairytale for Everyone has previously worked on Ervin Lázár's fairy tales and Zoltán Halasi's prose. The Filter Prize-winning Mari Alföldy is also a true legend: her translations of works by Imre Kertész, László Krasznahorkai and Sándor Márai are known in the Netherlands. Three people worked on the German edition: Christina Kunze, translator of Ágnes Nemes Nagy, Edina Szvoren and Zoltán Zelk, among others; Tímea Tankó, who has translated works by Miklós Szentkuthy, György Dragomán and Antal Szerb into German; and Tünde Malomvölgyi, known as a translator of István Örkény's short stories" – said editor Boldizsár M. Nagy.
