The Archivettes
American documentary, 2019, 61 min., dir. Megan Rossman
The film tells the story of the world's largest lesbian archive, the New York Lesbian Herstory Archives, founded in the 1970s by Joan Nestle and Deborah Edel. Run collectively and by volunteers, the archive's mission is to collect and preserve documents about lesbians, and expressions of lesbian identity, love and solidarity. Today, the founders, who are in their eighties, face a number of challenges: transferring leadership, the rise of digital technology, and a call for activism at a politically charged moment.
After the screening, we talk to director Megan Rossman.
The program is part of the 13th LGBT History Month.
