We are organizing a somatic day in Debrecen on August 23rd, as part of the 2025 events of the historical-artistic exhibition Labrisz 25 -- Lesbian Herstory in Hungary, using the Labrisz archive collection.

EVENTS OF THE DAY:

2:00-4:00 p.m.: Labrisz somatic workshop
Baross16 Community Center (Debrecen, Baross Gábor u. 16.)
PLEASE NOTE The workshop (like all programs) is FREE, but advance registration is required for the workshop event, which we are accepting until August 17, 2025, at the email address szucsreka@labrisz.hu!
Focus: body-mind connection, self-care, inner awareness, organ awareness
Facilitators: Rózsa Kedves-Katonai, certified psychologist and yoga instructor & Dóra Ida Szűcs, contemporary dancer, choreographer, performer
Purpose of the class: This event is organized by the LABRISZ Lesbian Association and aims to provide a space for us to slow down, listen inwardly, and connect with our bodies, feelings, and inner worlds.
What matters here is not how your movements look, but how you are present in them. You don't have to conform, you don't have to know anything – just listen, let go, and connect.
The exercises – self-massage, meditation, Taoist movement forms, and free improvisation – help you listen to your body's messages and move at your own pace toward regeneration, letting go, or rebuilding.
We believe that if we learn to connect with ourselves in a compassionate and accepting way, we will become more open, understanding, and accepting towards others. Self-love and self-healing are therefore not only personal but also communal. This space is therefore not only individual but also shared—a place where we can be present with each other just as we are.

6:00 p.m.: Adrienn Hód | HODWORKS & Márta Ladjánszki × Labrisz: Lesbian Spaces Pop-up Exhibition
Malter Bar (Debrecen, Baross Gábor u. 16.)
The exhibition will be opened by Réka Szűcs, filmmaker and archivist at Labrisz.
Opening performance: Márta Ladjánszki, choreographer and dancer.

The continuation of last year's performance series in Budapest, now with the participation of Márta Ladjánszki and Adrienn Hód as creators and performers, with two different performative concepts. In 2024, cinematographer Gábor Szabó, sound engineer Rudolf Várhegyi, and filmmaker Réka Szűcs shot performances inspired by Márta Ladjánszki's dance piece Inspired by Luca Széki's dance piece, they shot performances for the Labrisz Censorship Museum project and the Labrisz 25 exhibition, entitled Lesbian Spaces x Márta Ladjánszki: Alone. In this, the choreographer-performer and the film crew visited former gay and lesbian venues and meeting places in Budapest. These are places that regularly appear in the Labrisz Archive materials—Egyetem presszó, Capella, Ipoly cinema, Café Eklektika—and which are now "cold places," preserving only architectural traces of the memory of institutions linked to the community's herstory. In the performances captured on film, the moving body brings the past to life. She does not remember it, she does not "dance it out," but rather brings it to life with the vitality of her body. She literally embodies what was once present in these places.
In June 2025 (and recorded in August 2025), we continued this in Debrecen with two prominent Hungarian female contemporary dance artists, in "cool places" such as the former PANZIÓ, various locations of Club Zeusz, the Csokonai Theater's actors' club, and the Kaktusz Beer Hall. The performances are not advertised, and we basically count on passers-by as a spontaneous audience. The recordings are once again part of the Labrisz 25 historical-art exhibition.
